Start Investing In Stocks (Seminar Invite)Posted on Aug 8, 2012
With all the good press the stock market has been getting these past few months, it’s no wonder that many people are interested in investing in the stock market. The sad reality is that people who jump into the stock market fail big time! Don’t be fooled by whatever anyone else says – building your wealth through stocks requires knowledge, skills and sound strategy. Just because you know how to buy stocks doesn’t mean you know how to choose them, when to buy them and when to sell them.
There are many providers out there that teach people how to trade stocks but therein lies the problem. Trading stocks is all about making money on the price fluctuations of stocks as they are traded. Returns can be good if you can learn to be a good at trading stocks. However very few people are ready to commit to the requirements of trading stocks – constant monitoring and full understanding of and capabilities in technical analysis, chart analysis, market indices and global economics all to grow their wealth using a high risk investment instrument. And those who start trading before they have a good understanding of how stock trading is and who they are as a stock trader often lose their investment due to bad stock buy-sell decisions coupled with not being able to manage their own emotions.
This doesn’t mean you should forget about stocks altogether. The stock market provides Filipinos a wonderful opportunity for building their wealth. The Colayco Foundation understands that hardworking income earners like you probably don’t want to become traders – tied to the computer screen Monday to Friday morning to afternoon managing your stock portfolio, almost killing yourself when the stock market is in the red or is not doing well and the value of your portfolio drops from Php10,000 to Php30. There are a lot of gains to be made in the stock market and a lot of losses too. The key here is to be a value investor – one who seeks sustainable growth in their wealth by making good buy-sell decisions and by employing effective investing strategies.
In our upcoming InvestAbility: The Stock Market and InvestEd: Analyzing Stocks Seminars this coming September 1 Saturday, the discussion focuses on Stock Investing not Stock Trading.
