The Colayco Foundation for Education, Inc.

The Colayco Foundation for Education (CFE) continues to be a prime mover of the financial literacy movement in the country. In 2003, it started promoting the need for financial education among ordinary income earners, students, migrant workers and their families. CFE delivers its advocacy in all forms of media: bestseller books, seminars, workshops, TV and radio programs and the Internet. These have opened and continue to open the minds of millions of Filipinos on the need to save and grow their savings to prepare a secure future for themselves, their families and their community. This is the Foundation’s modest contribution to nation building.

CFE has achieved a good measure of success in this advocacy. It has engaged hundreds of corporations, institutions and organizations in enlightening their employees and members in the proper management of their personal finances. Based on post-evaluation forms, all of the thousands of participants in close to 400 talks, seminars, and workshops confirm their satisfaction with their newfound direction and knowledge. The goal is to continue working closely with these groups to provide their employees/members with advance training and guidance in practicing what they have learned.  CFE is also testing the new medium of DVD to make its information more available and more useful to all who need it.

It has been clear as well that the work of CFE has not gone unnoticed by influential groups. Many consider CFE as the authority on personal finance and financial education. It receives frequent invitations to share its insights and opinions in major talk shows and news programs on television and radio, print and online publications. Stakeholders in the finance industry and government agencies have partnered and continue to partner with CFE on various programs.

CFE is fortunate to be recognized as an expert in the field of financial education by international authorities as affirmed by its participation as panel speaker in the second and fourth Financial Education Summits in Kuala Lumpur and in New Delhi. These Summits, organized by the Citigroup Foundation and the Financial Times have been held annually since 2004 have been well attended by both private and government representatives from all over the world.

To this day CFE continues to work with and seek institutions and groups who share the same vision of empowering people with financial information and education. The vision is to stimulate wealth creation and entrepreneurship among income earners and thus help close the widening poverty gap in the country.
